bind ► VERB (past and past part. bound) 1) tie or fasten tightly together. 2) restrain (someone) by tying their hands and feet. 3) wrap or encircle tightly. 4) hold in a united or cohesive group or mass. 5) impose a legal or contractual obligation on. 6) (be bound by) be hampered or constrained by. 7) (bind someone over) (of a court of law) require someone to fulfil an obligation, typically by paying a sum of money as surety. 8) secure (a contract), typically with a sum of money. 9) fix together and enclose (the pages of a book) in a cover. 10) trim (the edge of a piece of material) with a fabric strip.
